Japanese Imari vase, made during the Meiji era, circa 1880 to 1890. The 6 iron-red marks on the bottom are those of Koransha (Company of the Scented Orchid), established in Arita, Japan, in 1875. Koransha was founded by Ezaiemon Fukagawa to produce porcelain wares for export to the West. Imari porcelains were produced by several factories, but those made by the Fukagawa family are considered the finest. This vase's beautifully hand-painted design depicts a falcon perched in a prunus tree, and 2 cranes in a bamboo grove. Imari porcelains were not signed by individual artists, and some do not even bear factory marks
